Haiku: One Deep Breath chose Simplicity as their prompt this week! Tuesday is technically “the” day, but we all love writing from their prompts we post early. Quite a few up already. Click here to see all!
Simplicity of Toddlers
first dandelion
seeds blown gently toward sky
toddler repeats feat
he reaches only
for hand of elder
does he know she can’t lift him?
Mar… shah… he whispers,
proud eyes gleam behind shy smile
I made a new friend.

Is it obvious we spent the weekend with our friends and their toddler? And you can bet every flower after that felt a gentle rush of air as he repeated his newfound pleasure.
I bet as obvious as this thank you for honoring my copyright, though I knew you would….

Lovely haiku, each a wonderful picture of a young child. I especially like the second one.
Rae - Thank you. That second one was exactly what I thought for the first day, the second day he found out I could lift him.
They are all filled with tenderness but it is the first one and the final line especially, the deeply moves me.
AnnieElf - It feels good that you were moved by my haiku. Thank you.
Absolutely love all three, though as a mother the first is my favourite (and well done on the 17).
Jo, thank you. I think his mother would agree with you on the first, she handed him the first Dandelion in seed.
Ah! The sweetness, the simplicity. Lovely. Aren’t little ones such a treat?
Susan, thank you. They are a treat, he was especially.
gorgeous imagery - i can almost picture his face looking up at you.
Greggo, I’m glad the imagery came through, they were based on the weekend. Thank you.
These made me smile…
Such simple things and a real achievement and treat for the toddler.
I’m glad you smiled, Spacedlaw. Toddlers are so full of wonder and achievement.
Funny the inspiration. The “pretty tiny” one I did was on the lovely wish faeries created by those dandelion seeds. The first time they accomplish it, bliss. Lovely ku. Love how you have brought him to life by how he whispers your name.
Patois, thanks, wish faeries, I have to check that out… That name haiku, I felt and relived the moment as I wrote it… it really felt special, he is a wonderful child. Thank you.
toddler repeats feat…great word play…but each of these is a little capsule of a moment. great fun to read these.
Megan, thank you, glad they were fun to read.
