Man’s regeneration

One singles bar
only led to another
there was no blaze of glory
nor Dagwood sandwiches to enjoy
in front of an over-sized TV
only food for thought
to be ignored
from the outside
in.

Gooey, ooey,
sticky taffy
would stand as reminders
of industry standards
not met
of exclusive rights
owned by others
of warranty work
not honored
of magical dreams
left on the dresser behind

but heels clicked twice
as he read out loud
and clouds overhead
spinning shapes
once read
by child plus him
brought perspective
to life
and taffy
became edible
once again.
