Writers Island - My journey

Writers Island is a wonderful place to journey. The prompt was, appropriately enough, the journey. Head on over to the island and see what journey’s other poets, writers or photographers went on.

My journey

It was a short journey
in retrospect
to become who I am
for my values
are still much
as they were
before I grew up.

Confidence has come,
risks have been
devalued
or reevaluated
and knowledge
has come:
sometimes in dribs
others in drabs
sometimes with the
swiftness and directness
of a lightning bolt
thrown by a practiced
javelin thrower.

My heart has remained open
instincts have merely been honed
procrastination has remained steadfast
the child in me has remained
to share space with the adult that has
always been inside.

I am still Marcia, whether I call myself
MeeAugraphie, Mom, her kid, wife, Aunt, or
by someone’s misspelling
or mispronunciation….

I hope your journey was as easy… in hindsight.

My words are meant to remain here…

lovely… I really liked this line, “the child in me has remained
to share space with the adult that has always been inside.” Oh that more people could remember the importance of this child… for to journey with that child makes for a wondrous life…

Wonderful and evocative line turning the usual child within inside out. I think I like this point of view better.

This is beautifully put. An insightful piece.

i have no concept of your acceptance of life,, as it chose to offer itself to you… what is it in some of us that causes us to reject ease and acceptance in favor of chaos and war?????? i hope some day to understand….

Ah, it’s about the hindsight, isn’t it? About remembering the easy and filming the not so easy. Great words and thoughts!

An open mind, an open heart and a deep abiding devotion to procrastination. Words to live by. Wonderful poem!
