Friday 5 - Tattoo

October 7, 2007 | Filed Under Friday 5, Poetry

Michelle recently started two memes at Poefusion. I’m so excited! One is Friday 5. These are the five words she chose for us on October 4th:

butterfly - joust - midst - strewn - atmosphere

What a combination! Why not play along each week? Poefusion.

Tattoo

She chose a butterfly,
not because it floated gently on afternoon breezes
or batted its wings as softly as eyelashes against a cheek
but to share it’s lifelong journey

He chose a swift horse with muscles bulging,
only because it would support the weight
of armor and gritted teeth
for he chose to joust his way through life

Side by side beneath revealing lights
they paused on cold tables.

In the midst of urban glare,
their thoughts turned inward,
seeking a corner of their own
in litter strewn hearts
ensconced in cluttered minds.

She squealed as the needle hit
a spot long left untouched

He turned his head toward the sound,
atmosphere changed.

This was beautiful, sad and my favorite of the three. I felt there was some distance to be traveled for the two persons involved in this poem. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful piece of poetry.
