UPDATE: I just couldn’t get into this, 2808 words and I was struggling, not even bothering after a while, and we all know I am not at a loss for words. Today, Paul at Write Stuff asked a question of us all. That simple question brought me back into NaNoWriMo’s fold.
Last year I was so excited, this year I was for the first few pages only. It clicked today, I was writing the wrong story, I wanted to be writing a story about The Observer, a character I had introduced in my first NaNoWriMo attempt last year. And, I wanted to be writing like I usually do, by the seat of my pants, in whatever order the characters chose to reveal their scenes. Instead I was trying to write chronologically - so not me. I also thought I was writing the wrong story as well, but…
Yep, it is about Jake, too. The two stories were meant to be woven together, and hours after increasing my word count for the first time in a week, as I typed a comment to Paul’s post, I realized how I was tying them together… I’m back, or rather my excitement level is back, I am free falling again, and I know that net is there waiting to catch me - and my characters. I only need to write 46,339 words between now and early November 30th to say I “won” NaNoWriMo again. That’s only just over 2100 per day… OOPS.
Let’s try that math again: 12 days to write 46, 339 more words… Uhm, make that just over 3861 words per day…. I can do it…. my poetry may be ignored, Leon may have to study alone….
My original first paragraph:
“Head in shaking hand, heart on shredded sleeve, mind tumbling like an uneven load in a commercial dryer at a laundromat painted in both office beige and graffiti as worn as tattoos done by a 14 year old with needle and ink: that pretty well described Jake tonight. I have to admit, I am quite proud of that description. He, Jake, I mean, would be totally offended. Too bad, Jake, if the shoe fits….”
You all know I never plan it out. I was panicking this time that my muse would let me down… Well, it didn’t…. that was so much fun to type… I wonder where on earth this will take me? I know beans are in the future.
I’m satisfied now, I can sleep.

Way to go Marcia! I know you’ll finish with more than 50,000 words.
Thanks, Chris. Just when y’all getting me to spout poetry in fewer words - finally, NaNoWriMo starts again and I have to pad it again… no, I’m not padding it, I am just returning to old habits.
((((Marcia))))
Good luck with the writing and the travels.
Rose
Thanks, Rose, the travels are over, your well wishes did help carry us, I’m sure. And the writing, I really appreciate the good luck, I will need it, but at least either way, it is tons of fun!
I’m not satisfied…now I want to know more. Write more…I’ll read more…
I did write more, but posting it, that is another thing… when I get to the bean thing, well, maybe.. but y’all will probably try to commit me… and not for my genius….grin. Thanks, Matty.
Oh, I totally want to know more about Jake!
Way to get a good start
You have a very nice start on your novel. I hope we can see more.
You’ve been tagged to write 7 random things about yourself, if you like. My 7 are posted at http://www.shadesofmj.blogspot.com if you would like to take a look. If you participate, please link back to Poefiti. Thanks!
Have a nice night.
I’m glad you found your rhythm again
Thank you, TC. Thank you.
Good for you, Marcia! And just to help you along, I cancelled 3WW for this week
I hope you don’t get so caught up in nanowrimo that you forget tomorrow is Thanksgiving.
Last year, I wrote on Thanksgiving, because our son and daughter-in-law took over our kitchen. This year, they and their friends took over a kitchen again, but I did not work on my novel… my Muse wanted a break. I think she through a fit because you did not post three little words, grin.
