Monday Mural - Pride

Michelle at Poefusion took a great photo of a chimney standing among trees in Cummins Nature Preserve as our prompt for Monday Mural. It is such an awesome prompt. Go, view the photo, write a poem or story. I know you have it in you. And the photo is so peaceful, view it even if you do not choose to write. I, however, did write:

Pride

I stand tall,
though haggard
as mortar between my clay bricks
shows cracks and loss
in my self-esteem.

I once fretted over pride
and want, spewing
blackened smoke
back down my damper
to agitate the flames
of desire leaping
at my dull cavities.

Not until the fires burned out
repeatedly while I stood tall,
not until the wooden shell I
rested against fell into the
silence of deserted day,
not until I looked down
on the bleakness that
surrounded me,

did I feel proud.

I love the way you personified the lone chimney and made it proud. This was beautiful. Your first and second stanzas are well worded leading us to the final stretch. They also are my favorite lines. Keep up the good work.

    Have a nice day.

Thank you, Michelle. This was one of my favorite prompts! As soon as I saw the photo I knew it had to be personified.
