3WW & Friday 5 - Glimpse of Two People

January 5, 2008 | Filed Under 3WW, Friday 5, Poetry

Bone posted his words for 3WW and I missed them both holiday weeks even though I looked for them… I followed my link (can’t blame this one on him) to a previous post. Oops…

The words were:

Button - Luck - Pretend

Curious - Eventually - Shower

Then I missed Michelle’s Friday Five, can’t blame her either, grin. And I missed two of hers, but just realized it after writing this. So the last five words I missed were:

vellum - moss - reminisce - distorted - fiction

This is what I came up with, combining the three:

Glimpse of Two Lives

She wore the button
in hopes her pretend life
would bring her luck
and love,

her real life didn’t.
The button read: Vote for me.

She wasn’t running for office.

~~~
Doubt raised by friends eventually
outweighed
reason
He followed her into the shower
to be sure she
wasn’t
a he.
~~~

It was then her luck changed
as curtains as revealing only as vellum
over an ivory card
revealed her underlying femininity.

Years later, one button found covered in
moss between two bricks,
brought a quiet reminisce
followed by two grins as realization dawned:

a once distorted fiction
blossomed to become life reality,

but only as to who wore the pants in their family.

    Thanks for stopping by tonight. It’s okay you missed the Friday 5. Sometimes everyone simply gets behind. I know I do. Anyway, your poem was really good. I love the way you start with one point and end it with another. Always a surprising end but, taut. Thanks for sharing. Hope your weekend has been good.

    How’d you do that? Incredible. I found each of those words to be un-easy in single fashion but to combine them in such a fascinating way - well. I particularly like the first stanza. Nice read!

    Very clever use of all three. It is a story in itself..

    A very happy 2008!

    Oh I disagree… you can always blame something on Bone O:)

    I really liked the idea of her wearing that button when she wasn’t running for office :)

    Wow–her real life didn’t.
    The button read: Vote for me.

    She wasn’t running for office.

    That so resonates with me

    Thank you for your too kind comment. Meant so much :)
