Life Tears

Life Tears

My heart aches.

Clouds floating across
a blue sky
drag my limp body
upward,
where their gentle hugs
absorb my anguish
and ignore
that my tears turn
their white laced demeanor
into gray swollen masses.

Instead, the cloud hugs
tighter until my last tear
has been deposited
within its embrace and I drift
back to solid ground.

There, I sit
in self-imposed muteness
as the once beautiful cloud
tumbles across the sky,
ugly in its bloated grayness,

As my
distress becomes theirs
they grumble
with deep tenor
and jagged spikes are tossed
in frustration
until they open to drop
all my tears as rain

and I look on in awe
at the power of my tears:

Greens are made colorful.
Stems once bent in tired hunger straighten.
Birds and bees and dragonflies compete to be first at puddles.

My tears make a difference.

and yes, I actually edited this one….

If you came from Tumbled Words, no need to continue reading. If you just tumbled onto this poem, this link will lead you to how it came about from a Memorial Day post last year, where it will lead, and also to another shorter poem on life and death.
