Friday Five - Art in Motion

Michelle chose these words for Friday Five’s prompt at Poefusion: synchronized swimming - whalesong - fluidity - river - age

Art in Motion

It looked so simple,
synchronized swimming,
toned arms sliced the water in unison,
followed by graceful dive
into depths populated by
nature’s whalesong

unpainted toes pointed,
lithe legs arched to create
the fluidity of women
traveling calm waters
before tidal waves
of unbidden emotion

ILLUSIONS, ALL.

tread water, ignore muscle’s burn
choice is theirs: inhale water
via a noses intended for the feather weight of air
or destroy beauty’s illusion with crass rubber covered metal strangling
delicate nasal tissues

allow their pretty heads to sink toward the domain
of
bottom
feeders

as blood weighs in on minds’ emptiness
and hands draw infinity,
fingers together,
toes pointed
lithe legs exposed to frigid air.
Age exposed.

Hey Meeaugraphie! You are the first person I’ve met to have tried synchronized swimming. That’s great! But, from you poem it sounds like it isn’t as beautiful doing the exercise for the crowd as it is beautiful to look at. I love your description here. Thanks for sharing this. Have a nice weekend.

Poetry reveals the hidden aspects of life, and here you reveal the backdoor of art. I can see so well the movements of the swimmers. The first part shows the beauty, the second shows the struggle. Well done!

I also read your Poetry Tumble page-what a great project. So many of the poems describe tender family scenes, love, and other emotions and scenes of daily life. Interesting, since you started with a line about angels. The angels of your life?

that is sooooo the poetic picture of synchronized swimming above and below the waterline… always wondered about the nose and breathing…
