Poetry Tumbled quickly, Two More

A continuation today, of two poems in my Poetry Tumble, started from one line of a special poem by a special poet. From that point I took the last line of my poem and made it the first line of another poem, not as a story continuation, but a new poem that stands alone. less than first
less than prime
was that to be his destiny?
merely almost?
that might have worked
had he become
a professional horseshoe player
rather than a stock car racer.

why didn’t he just write a new ending?
Wow… that ending really got me. I thought it was enough of a pang with the “Someone I didn’t mean to become…” but then you had to finish driving the nail in the coffin with that last line.
Nicely done.
I liked this a lot, Marcia. Of course, I usually do. This really hit home for me, though.
Those last two lines are powerful. Resounding.
Also reminds me of a George Eliot quote: “It’s never too late to become what you might have been.”
