Abecedarians PLUS

March 8, 2008 | Filed Under Poetry

I had so much fun writing my first abecedarian that I spent hours writing other patterns based on that. They probably exist somewhere, but I have never seen them, so I will post the abcedarian pattern and seven other versions of it for each of the following groups:

Todays patterns use vowels only as the first letter of each line.  My attempt of one of them:

PATTERN C. ALPHABETICAL ORDER - ONE THEN TWO

The In-law

amiable at the most (toward me)
eclectic less than others, my
efforts at connection meet synapses that fail to fire
inside her mind’s connection to heart,
obsidian feedback
occasional moments of bridges crossed
ultimately connection lost

I offer them so you can just copy and paste and not have to think them out as you write your poems. Have at it. Freestyle or rhyme, your choice. I did four others of these this morning, to be posted later today.

Here are the first eight patterns just based on Vowel letters:

Hey! I learned vowels + y sometimes back… OK, in the dark ages. Sigh.

No, you were not in the dark ages, you are much too young, TC.

Wow! You’re into this with both feet and all syllables! This piece is surely sad - when the synapses don’t… Nice work! And thanks for the cut and paste counts!

Thank you. My mind stretched for that word, synapses, it was one of those moments that make a writer smile that they pulled the word out, Susan. You’re welcome, by the way.
