Tempered Destiny - Writers Island

March 10, 2008 | Filed Under Poetry, Writers Island

Writers Island’s prompts were Destiny and Rising, I chose the latter… rising temper was the first thing I thought of. I know… so many other choices!

Temper

Her mood,
once ebbed,
rose to meet his
and
cyclone met hurricane
though no rain fell
for the inflamed
tempers evaporated it
before it fell…

Hot time in the old town tonight
though no mud was slung.

Perhaps, tomorrow,
rain will return to mix with
the fallout
and mudslinging can resume

as normal

OOPS, I could not resist trying the other prompt…

Destiny

Your destiny is not mine
unless I so choose to create my own

as a clone of yours
and though yours might seem enticing
to the naked eye,
what I can create on my own
is more enticing to my heart.

i think the reality of the second poem is what causes a lot of the mudslinging going on in the first one… individual destinies often collide…

I never tied the two poems together, the second one was an afterthough — but that makes sense, Paisley.

I agree with Paisley - these two appear to have a commonality - cause and effect or vice versa. :) Nice work!

At least I can see it now, too, Susan. Thank you.

The first stanza in the first poem is absolutely perfect. It’s so vivid, so poetic (not as much of a “duh” as you first think), so wonderful.

As for the Destiny poem, that’s awesome, too. What a call for independence.

And yes, the wise ladies above me see the same connection I do. Or I’m seeing what they are. Or something like that.

Thank you, Susan, especially for the aside. I must have connected them unconsciously, that is how I normally write.

I like the image of weather fronts colliding as a metaphor for human confrontation

Thank you, Juliet. It did just seem to fit.

Seems like a common theme Marcia. Hope the storms clear soon. On another note, Ann will be here in 9 DAYS!!!!! So excited.

I totally read politics into the first one… oops!

Whoa, I see where you got it!
