Margaritaville

Head jerks down
as eyelids seek sleep

poetry goal is threatened
lurking beneath fatigue:

one man seeks truth
and untold lies

while woman of pure heart
begs to feel nothing.

And muse pounds on sleep’s door,
“Let them be heard!”

And fingers move toward keys as head struggles to lift

frustration builds as sleep is the stronger
for it has one margarita fueling it

and muse has only strong desire and instinct
to uphold its battle stance.

“Sleep, tired one, let your feet skate across
tile and body sink into soft pillows.”

Goal seeker leaps to combine forces with muse,
“I will not one family dinner deter us from our goal!”

Sleep stands down only enough to copy paste and post.

There will be no links tonight for poet is awake enough
only to join forces

with

sleep.
