A Mermaid’s Quest - Monday Mural

April 28, 2008 | Filed Under Monday Mural, NaPoWriMo, Poetry

Prompt from Michelle at Poefusion: Monday Mural was a photo of what appeared to be a sand sculpture. A photo worth peeking at y’all, with eye’s open - and I can only imagine where it took the other poets!

A Mermaid’s Quest

She died longing for something
that was not meant to be

and, though she succeeded
in part,

weary by effort expended
she laid her head against
a spire and longed for an end

and tides came in bringing seeds
from afar

and tides went out

flowers sprouted

too late to bring a smile
to her wintered face.

Marcia, this is really good. I love how you made her long for something that was just out of her reach. Isn’t that the way it goes in real life too? And the ending… to her wintered face. Perfection. Have a nice day.

I really like this…the narrator’s voice…the tides that came in bringing seeds…the flowers that sprouted when the tides went out…and her wintered face. Lovely interpretaion of the picture.
