On Dust and Kryptonite – 3WW

Three Word Wednesday. Wonderful words, Bone. Thank you.

Empty – Highway – Ignored

Dust Storm

Empty highway, ignored
until man exercises muscle

Deep throated cars
declare it theirs

Air sliced by objects propels itself,
earth stands helpless in its path

Cracked layers disturbed
dust rises and falls.

Plants must wait for wind or rain
to cleanse their lifeline to the sun

Man communing merely shakes it off,
thinking himself the lucky one

And forgets his lifeline to oxygen
has been caked with dust as well.

I intended to stop after the first stanza, but I wrote the rest… I intended to stop after the first poem, but I wrote another… My fingers readied to accept another, but I declared a full stop, until tomorrow. I can stop. I can. I can. I think I can.

Once again: Empty – Highway – Ignored

Search For Kryptonite

Ignored by all
he closed
his door of dreams

The one he once thought
made of gold

Lead, it was,
and solid, through which
no glimmer could be seen

His nights had filled
with searches

Just one flaw
he sought, a pinhole
to allow dream’s entrance

And finding none, he stepped
onto an empty highway

And life stretched ahead,
for it was not his end
but his beginning

He searched life’s darkened skies
for Kryptonite’s luminescent glow
and scoured the seas below

He walked past fields of gold
and guns of lead and cold

And stumbled on
dream’s counterpart
and wrote his life his way

Empty memories erased and rewritten
Graphite and gum erasers became his friend
