40. Because Tonight
because, tonight I may dream the future me,I must retire at sunset
eyes fluttering closed as the last colors of day
pale to a mere flushI must have windows cast open wide
ears destined to hear crickets’ chatter broken by shouts
of bullfrog’s swollen demandsI must have covers at ready,
skin anxious for the fleeting touch of winter’s caress
even as it prepares for sheltering in down’s warmthyes, tonight I may dream the future me:
I must have heart open and unprotected
to accept Muse’s brilliance in design
of my life’s still unconscious pathI must have mind in quiet repose
gathering strength
to accept the inevitable climb….and, because tonight I may dream the future me,
I must be alone, protected from
your heated envelope, as it would pull me
from distant dreams’ implored requests.MeeAugraphie

In retrospect, Poetry Tumble #40 had to come quickly after #39, for in life I never held at 39, I rushed headlong into 40 – and never regretted it. This one is a bit more involved than most, a bit of conscious thought came into parts of it, a rarity in my writing.
Have you dared to dream your future yet? Or, will you just let it come at its own will?
Ongoing, though on no schedule, since June ‘07, my last line becomes first line of next poem. The relationship of one poem to next is not a requirement, nor preferred. To read all that came before in chronological order – and to see which line from whose poem inspired this Poetry Tumble, click on the Poetry Tumble page, or simply click here: Poetry Tumble, but you might want to come back when you have time, this is number 40.

I think I want to dream it. This is lovely and inspirational…
