Intervention by Nature

With 9/11 on minds, all tragedy and loss begin to surface to disturb once quieted hearts. I believe that tributes bring both sadness and release, sometimes more of one than the other – but nature can help regain our balance of heart. I’ve written previously of Nature’s gift to balance human hearts, but for today, let’s read about possibilities this September 11th, I hope, in someone’s life, somewhere.

Intervention by Nature

Tears hung in waiting, locked
securely in heart’s hold

but nature conspired release
in rendezvous with mind,

So, blue sky reflected love
while rainbows wrapped your heart

as hidden stars winked in knowing,
they’d be reached for again.

Sun rays dimmed quietly in respect
and moon glow dispelled the dark

and lightning flashed quick memories
bringing laughter out to play

Bold thunder cried for healing,
and your fear and hate lost grip

allowing instincts’s tidal pull
to kidnap your tears at sea

Woman Stifled

Woman Stifled

She dares not run too fast forward
nor leap back toward past

yet to remain in place
stifles.

She has not yet discovered
that walking forward
even while holding on
to what was

will free her.

But, she will,
for trial and error
are the professors of life
and her mind is a student.

Mona Lisa, a reaction

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa. Why the fuss over her? I had seen pictures in books and on TV. On our recent family reunion trip to England, we trudged through Paris and made it to the Louvre — with only an hour or so to spend there. My experience:

We were following the signs through the museum to the Mona Lisa because our daughter-in-law wanted to see it. I had, quite frankly forgotten it was even there. People were nearly wall-to-wall (including many groups of children). The place was like a sauna – and heat and my body clash horribly. I was sweating and, at one point had to sit down, I was so overheated. I was ready to just have them wheel me out, but I, quite accidentally, had chosen a seat near a vent and recovered.

Finally, we turned the corner to see her, cordoned off from our sweaty mass. We moved carefully through the throng of people to one side in front. I expected nothing but the right to say, “I saw the Mona Lisa in person.” I received more.

I felt emotion. I have no clue why, nor can I peg which emotion it was, but it was.

I can only call it ‘magic’ – and yet that is such an overused and inappropriate word. All the other paintings we glanced at or studied that day were just objects on the wall, some beautiful, some not to me. None of the others triggered any emotion in me, only the Mona Lisa.

Strange.

Thank you, Susannah, for wanting to see her.

Finding Self-Worth

Finding Self-Worth

Controls one’s own happiness?
I do.

Yet, there is more to it.

And.

Yet, there is not.

Why DO we fight it so
when the results are
happiness?

Yes, Poetry Tumble Too, finally continues, in spite of work to be done, kitchens to be packed, blogs and books to be read, calls to be made. (Oops, consider that my reminder!)

But I must wait to begin the next poem in the series with the simple line, “happiness”, for poetry and blogging has grabbed valuable time, it was happiness made, but now, the happiness to be made is self-worth in having gotten the job done… so I must start it to get it done!

Do you make your own happiness more often than not?
