Poetry Thursday – An Open Window

Poetry, Poetry Thursday | Posted by MeeAugraphie

I am posting early….

The last week of Poetry Thursday…. is it a door slammed shut? Or, will it be a door left cracked open just a bit for us to wedge ourselves into the opening of opportunity? I suppose we will find out Friday…

But, for today, the window remains a possibility and their prompt was: an open window.

An Open Window

One mind

though, perhaps,
beautiful

though, perhaps,
open

could be
an open window
to opportunity

or

an excuse to
crawl out
to hide
in the humid air
that merely
reflects

and

fails to penetrate…

Poetry Thursday – A Dad’s Memory

Poetry, Poetry Thursday, Poetry Tumble | Posted by MeeAugraphie

Poetry Thursday prompted us this week to use the last line of a poem as our first line of a new poem. I can’t wait to try it again with other poems.

A Dad’s Memory

As you got up from bended knees
white clover in your hair,
we tightly grasped his tiny hands
counted up to three
then swung him up to meet the sky,
and squealed with him in glee…
it was there we celebrated
one and one is three.

This first line was the last line of Prayers Unheard?, a poem I wrote using a line that leaped into my soul and refused to let go when reading a poem written by Chris Sapp, Pillows. I used his line (with his permission) as both my first line and again in the last stanza in that poem.

I started a path I wish to follow. Where will “one and one is three” lead me?

Update: I continued the tumble of lines in future poems. I post them as I write them, but also have them all in chronological order as Poetry Tumble, a tab at the top of the page. Some find it interesting to see the progression as in future poems, the last line rolls over to become the first line of the next poem.

My words are not to be copied without written permission. Thank you.

Poetry Thursday — Perhaps not, but…

Poetry Thursday is on break, they deserve it! I had my own agenda today, anyway!

Would the world have noticed the poem I didn’t write?

Perhaps not, but would a teacher have smiled at a
shy girl’s crush — which led to her own quiet memories
of blushing years before,
of holding hands,
of secret looks
and rejuvenated herself
that harried Wednesday?

Perhaps not, but would a young boy have even finished
his homework which he hated anyway –
when he did not have a poetry book nor his parents a car
to get all the way to the library across town
had his sister not written a silly poem to go into the
report on Poems I Like?

Perhaps not, but would I have grown up
to find solace in poetry
to write beautiful words of sympathy
that another woman, nearly an enemy,
embraced more than one would dream –
had I not had those preteen moments?

Perhaps not, yet the sun would still shine
and the birds would still sing
and more children would be born
and people would go to work
and someone else would have written
but it would not have been the same

for me.

Don’t bother copying these words… ’cause it just ain’t right!

Now, I sat down to write a poem with Matty and her grandchildren on my mind. Her grandson just went out of remission after 14 months. I know, he is just one of many human beings, his family is just one of many families, but what I was trying to express in my poem is we all make a difference, however slight, in someone’s life. Matty has impacted my life as a blogger. I want to impact her life in a tiny way. I declared this week Bolster Matty Week. Do me a favor, don’t comment on this poem, if you tumble onto it, just go over to Running on Empty and bolster her. If you don’t have time to say what you are feeling in your heart, just say, Happy Bolster Matty Week! She will know what is in your heart. . . ’cause she has one, too! And whatever you do, don’t tell her I sent you. . . she does not seek sympathy… not that this is sympathy, it is just BOLSTERING… heck, we are like pillows or something.

Poetry Thursday – 8th Grade Poem

Poetry, Poetry Thursday | Posted by MeeAugraphie

I’m so sorry I could not find the poem I wrote for Phil in 7th grade when I had a major crush on him. I hunted for a long time. This one is from 8th grade. It is basically a true story, grin!

Yes, his teacher had to correct a spelling error. . . no spell check back then.
Yes, I can hear all the meter “missteps”.

No!  I don’t have a clue why the picture is doing this!  Blogger is calling me back at this rate.
