Totally Optional Prompts - Personal Whys

February 1, 2008 | Filed Under Poetry, TOP | 6 Comments

Totally Optional Prompt’s prompt earlier in the week was irresistible. (OK, for me, ANY prompt is irresistible, but I can’t do them all, though I would if I could. This one I resisted for days, but lost (or won).

Personal Whys

She wanted two beautiful children to spoil,

that she was granted
and she doted and did for until she no longer could.

He wanted two children, who knows why

that he was granted
and he emphasized discipline both external and self.

And that, my friends, is why two children were born.

Together, those first two,
though they seemed not to have a creative bone
in their bodies,

raised two creative children,
with capability to love,
to share,
to go for their dreams
(though somewhat late in the cycle of life)

Here to make a difference,
Here to evoke emotion and provoke thought,
known only by instincts
(and the joy in doing)

And that my friends, is the why two children lived
and will live, one is halfway to 114, the other
must determine his own goal.

A Marriage - Totally Optional Prompts

October 11, 2007 | Filed Under Poetry, TOP | 10 Comments

Totally Optional Prompts, a new site for poets to gather. The prompts are different. With the poetry memes out there, we have no excuses not to write, period. Follow that link to wonderful poetry.

A marriage

Our hearts joined, mudded and taped,
sealed with a coat of primer, painted
in browns and blacks so we could sink
into earth’s embrace as naturally
as roots.

Our souls joined by mutual thought
interwoven with animal instinct,
bound in a cover of leather with
gold embossed letters so we could rise
into sky’s embrace as naturally
as clouds.

Then came earthquake.
We were unprepared,
or so we thought.
