08. Appearances – Lost and Found

Foreseen its cost?
I think not.

Neither had dared examine hearts
nor weigh future versus past
for survival of appearances,
high profile man, trophy wife,
had gained a stronghold on their life

And the children went without nothing – material

Neither had dared share dreams pent up
nor weigh humanity versus mannequin
for survival of appearances,
ladder climbed, woman’s beauty flaunted,
had gained a stronghold on their life

And the children learned to climb and paint

Neither had dared test ladder’s construction
nor weigh side effects of repeated surgery
and demise of appearances,
ladder pulled out, trophy tarnished beyond repair,
had gained a stronghold on their life

And the children learned their lesson?
One can only hope.
