04. Heart Rebuilding

the rebuilding of a heart
bears watching

for it progresses much as this:

a cool breeze tickles your cheek
in the midst of a never ending summer

a pile of blocks strewn about pulls you back
to the castle they once were at age four

the moment you think there is no more
yet another bite of chocolate remains

you turn the corner and he is there
turning the corner and you are there

the catch in your heart as you view
a hawk swooping down from the sky

the promise of a future kiss
the first bumbled attempt already replaced

the rebuilding of a heart
bears watching

if only so we, too, can follow along.
