Twenty-seven poems, all tumbled from one line in the midst of a poem by a poet who writes with truth. His line became the first line of my first poem in this tumble, and the last line of each becomes the first line of the next, connection or not, at Muse’s whim.
Curious who started my tumble through words? His poem (and name!) and my twenty-seven poems, in order written, are found under the Poetry Tumble tab at the top of the page, or simply click here.
27. Love Approaches
an unlocked heart
beckons love to its inner sanctum
but mind
could
still interfere
for reason voices its opinions,
formed long ago
now fed by worry
and others
and so, it is time to stand
tiptoes at precipice
Swan dive out of danger
with grace,
if you must
cartwheel headlong into love
with joy
if you dare
mind will adjust in time.

This is a continuation of my Poetry Tumble that began with one line from a poem written by a poet who speaks from within in honesty that may be too much at times for some – perhaps because we see ourselves? It was a beautiful line – and though I would like to say all my words were as beautiful as his line I chose to use, well, many weren’t.
Each time a whim or boredom captures my attention, I revisit the last line of the previous poem in the series and use it as the first. Sometimes the two poems connect, often they do not, that is the fun in it for me, they go wherever they wish. I do not plan them – and sometimes dislike where they go, but I love doing it. His beautiful poem is reprinted with permission on my Poetry Tumble page – and for those curious enough to see all the places his line led me, his and all twenty-six of mine are found in order written here. Who is the poet whose line inspired me so? Click that link!
The Key
at relationships of the human kind
we sometimes scoff
or throw our hands up
not needed
too much effort unrewarded
no time
why bother?
until the day
we are needed
and appreciated
and wanted
and found
by another human being
our books, computers, hobbies, studies
take a back seat from their place at our side
our dogs, cats, fish, and birds
hear stories told in a different voice
one that comes from
an unlocked heart.

Average – Neck – Scratch. Three simple words tossed at us by Bone for Three Word Wednesday. Though I have no time to read much this week, I could not resist writing, for as soon as I saw the word “neck” – the first line of the poem formed.

Him, A Partial Reveal
16.5 neck
above average height
(in the day)
large hands
big feet
inseam 30
actor, always on
(except when not)
dry witted
quick witted
moods worn for most to see
though some know not the signs
heart HUGE
hidden at times
while male bravado states its case
and loses.
Giver of self and heart.
I must only scratch the surface
for privacy means more to him than me….
Did I tell you I’m spoiled rotten?
(Not materially — for anyone could do that.)

I share this also as part of Barbara Torris’s challenge to write for ten days of positives and joy. Join us?
Comments unopened – just because. Have a joy filled day y’all. I’ll try to catch up on reading this weekend.

Today’s poem was from a prompt, ten simple words, sent by a friend, all included in this quick draft. The words did not include cherish or denied, head or heart, or even life or fear… just everyday words that lead me to all of those thoughts. Thank you, C, for forwarding his prompt. I have missed them.
All is well
past denied
full life ahead!
Forget those that came before.
Your head, this time,
(rather than your open heart)
knows him
as the one
who will cherish you
Your heart need fear men
no more.
